1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
My cart will start good if I have the drive belt off but if I put the drive belt on it won't start. Would it be a carb adjustment or do I need to look else where. I have issues with the clutch as well that im going to be ordering parts for when I figure out what other parts I need for it.

There is no adjustment on the carburetor. Post pictures of both clutches and the belt.

Retaining bolt, washer, and dust cover. You don't need the dust cover.

Do you happen to know what the retaining bolt size is?

Should I test the compression with the drive belt on or off also?

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
It took some doing, but I finally made some progress. Everybody has bolts for 89, and up, but nothing for the 2PG engines. I found a size, and a seller, but any hardware store would work.
DRIVEN CLUTCH HOLD DOWN BOLT FOR E-Z-GO 2 CYCLE 1976 to 1988 e-z-go golf car part driven clutch hold down bolt, 5/16-18"x4", 2 CYCLE 1976 to 1988 Price: $12.00 I will send you the link in a PM. The belt shouldn't be engaged until the engine starts. That means it shouldn't matter either way. If your drive clutch is squeezed before starting, that is a problem. Just make sure the throttle is wide open for a compression test. 120 psi is new. Down to 100 is very acceptable. 90 is getting to where it's time to think about new rings. It most likely won't run under 60 psi, but there have been some over achievers that do. |

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
I did a compression test and I was getting 70. So I guess I should really prepare to rebuild the engine. I guess the next question is how hard and what does it entail to rebuild it.

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
First thing to do is grab drive clutch and try to move it up and down. That checks the crankshaft bearings. If there is no movement, they are probably good. You can then think about doing just a top end rebuild along with new crankshaft seals.
