Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
Be sure to remove the starter belt when checking for bearing slop, the belt tension can hold the crank in place and fool ya

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
Before you take it apart, remove the exhaust pipe and do another compression check. I want to make sure we aren't dealing with a plugged exhaust.

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
The driven clutch has no movement up and down at all.
Now hopefully this weekend I can get the motor out of the cart and start to dissect and see what I'm dealing with and what parts I need. |

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
Is there anything else I need to check or be aware before I tear into my cart.

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
Loosen exhaust and do another compression test. You want to make sure a clogged muffler isn't causing the low compression.

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
The muffler was new last year so I'm guessing its not plugged. I will loosen it and check just as a precaution also. Can I order parts before I tear the motor down or is it a tear down and order necessary parts.

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
That's a judgement call. I myself would like to see what I need before ordering. You may decide that you only want to do this one time, and be done with it. Piston, and rings are $75. The jug, and all is $235. https://www.ecartparts.com/overhaul-...ycle-gas-80-88
Either way, make sure you buy new crankshaft seals. EDIT: I see it is advertised as a 2 port piston. Up to 88 was a single port piston. 89 started a 2 port piston. I don't believe it matters. |

Re: 1984 ezgo marathon starting issues
Thankyou I am hoping to tear into it this weekend to determine what I need. I just wasn't sure if I should get something ordered so I am not waiting forever with the way shipping has been going lately. Thankyou yet again for the info.
