Do yourself a favor, and buy a good carburetor. You will go through several of the 20 dollar carbs before you find a good one. I have never been to their website, but several people recommend Country Cat. The 88 carburetor is the only year that is different. It has a vertical choke shaft, and is larger than the other 2pg 2 strokes. It is a Mikuni BV-24. That is a 24MM throat instead of 18MM like the rest. Your muffler should have the exhaust inlet pipe attached to the top of the can instead of the side. Those mufflers are like gold. They are no longer available. When you rebuild, make sure you replace the crankshaft seals, and install the piston with the side port facing the intake not the exhaust. That will save us a lot of future troubleshooting. You adjust the governor with a pair of wire cutters by cutting it into tiny pieces, and throwing it away. Do the same thing with the oil injection, and premix your gas. The first tankful after rebuild is mixed 40:1. After that the mix is 128:1. EDIT: I don't think you will have any luck at Country Cat. I just checked their website. Maybe you could call them, and talk to a real person. |

Re: 88 Marathon service Manual
The governor limits you to 12 mph. Without it, you can do a rip roaring 18 mph.
It's also one less cable to jam up the carburetor. |

Re: 88 Marathon service Manual
Ooops, sorry if my post was misleading. The tiny little pieces thing made me giggle lol, But yes most all of us remove them. Mine will do 22mph now......

Re: 88 Marathon service Manual
Is there anything special to do when unhooking oil pump? Or just cap lines?

Re: 88 Marathon service Manual
Remove it all. The intake behind the carburetor takes a 6mm screw to plug it. Make it airtight.
