Default 1987 EZ go engine rebuild

Hi all,

I have a 1987 Marathon EZGO.
The motor is locked up on it.
I pulled the motor out and now I am thinking of rebuilding the motor because if I change it to a 4 stroke I will not have a reverse. ( The wife will not have any of this ! )
Anyway's I would appreciate any help info on how to rebuild it and where to purchase my rebuild kit or should I be looking at buying another complete engine because this one seems to be locked up?
Thank you for your help.

I'm on my way out the door, but your manual is in post #22. https://buggiesgonewild.com/showthre...=105501&page=3

Thank you.

Do you have any suggestions for a complete rebuild kit?
Where to purchase what may be needed?
The engine was running but now is locked up.
Can't turn it over at all.

Thank you.

You have to take it apart first. If the rod to crankshaft bearing has any issues, then you are done.

This is the link to site sponsors. I didn't see anything, but you should go through all of them. https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/site-sponsors.php

There is another place called vintage golf cart parts. They have your cylinder, piston, rings, wrist pin, and gaskets for $373.

BE22-020 - Wrist Pin Bearing $30

They have crankshaft seals too.

The crankshaft bearings are common and cheap, but again if you need the rod to crankshaft bearing, look for another engine.

Figure out why it's locked up before you spend any money.

Thank you for the response.
I must be stupid because when I click on the site sponsors nothing shows. I tried following your link as well.

On another note, I have read that if I get another engine I would need to get a 2 stroke because of reverse.
Are there any work arounds to that so I could put a 4 stroke on the cart?
If I am going to spend the money on another engine I would prefer to purchase a 4 stroke.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

The stock rear end isn't reversible. It would be a huge expense and a lot of fabrication to change it out with a 4 stroke when the cart is only worth a grand.

Let's see why it's locked up before you do anything else.

This is a site sponsor with a rebuild kit. https://www.ecartparts.com/re?pagenumber=3

Make sure your computer isn't blocking popups.
