94 Marathon Lift/Tie Rod Question
Hello, All ..
I've just installed a Jakes 4" drop axle lift on my cart. No real problems to report. Just had to do a little grinding to get the steering riser to fit. 22x11x10 wheels & tires should be here tomorrow. This cart is a worker and - roaming around in pastures - needs the clearance. Which brings me to my question: What can be done about the tie rod clearance? The axle is now raised but the tie rod runs straight across like it always did. Are there risers for the spindles so that the tie rod ends are lifted? Having installed this, it now seems kind of pointless if the tie rod is elevated only by bigger tires & wheels. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Re: 94 Marathon Lift/Tie Rod Question
Seems ezgo changed the steering in 1994.5, does yours have a drag link (tie-rod) from wheel to wheel you're talking about? If iso you probably installed it from the bottom up and should be installed top down.
how about a picture? |

Re: 94 Marathon Lift/Tie Rod Question
Stovebolt, yes, the tie rod is installed bottom up. Since the tie rod bolt holes are tapered, I'd have to drill them out to be able to install from top down (which would sure give me more ground clearance). I'm just a little hesitant to ruin the tapered hole. Will try to attach pix of what I have to work with.

Re: 94 Marathon Lift/Tie Rod Question
Flip it over and see how many threads are showing, I think it will work without drilling.

Re: 94 Marathon Lift/Tie Rod Question
I don't think it'll work too well. There are enough threads showing that I can get the castle nut on (barely) but not enough that I can run the cotter pin through. So, to do it this way, I'll need to drill it out. That's not the end of the world, though, so I may go ahead & do it. Thanks for the suggestion, Stovebolt.

If you drill it out why not go a 'heim joint'?
