Cool,
Thanks for all the help, I'll try and get the rest of the clutch off. Will update when I get it going again.

You have to use a puller to get the clutch off, its a special bolt that goes inside. Don't damage it. You don't have to take it off anyway iirc to do the pins, might not for the sheave I don't remember if I did or not...but I didn't have a puller back then. Think you just turn the star off.

JWH - I've got the exact same problem! Took my primary cover off and sure enough, one weight is snaped off just like yours! I bet Yamaha changed the design - at least I hope they did!

Now the question is: It looks like we'd have to replace the entire spider, since those arms seem to be on pins which don't look like they can be replaced..

The pins come out after you heat and remove the little set screws. Yamaha did replace it, see the posts about newer carts with bad rollers in their clutches instead of broken weights.
Look at tnt diagram it will show what comes apart.
What part broke?

That was actually a fun project! I like the one's we can do on the bench hanging out on a comfy stool! It went together perfectly. Re-mounted cover before attempting to install back on..Wrong!

Install clutch without cover. Install bolt. Not sure of lbs. install cover and six screws on cart! (new screws)

I have taken apart things that I have put never sieze on 30 yrs. ago, and it comes apart like it was assembled yesterday. Love that stuff. I don't use alot, just a thin film. Make sure its on the spark plug threads, (very thin film). I use it on almost every part and every thread I take apart.

Soon you will be helping others fix their cars, or fixing them for them. And its all fun!

Good deal, did you drive it yet? I'm having more fun than you, plowed snow today and been in the garage the rest of the day. Have the gas tank out of the car putting new pump in now....after dinner, what fun At least the furnace works in there hot as I want. Ford didn't use anti-seize on the fuel tank bolts by the way....lol.
