Tire size.
I was looking at a tire today marked 18.5 x 8.5 x 8 Carlisle brand and just being curious measured the diameter of the tire ( non mounted ) at 17". I figured that once mounted and inflated it should be 18.5" in diameter. Not so! This is the same brand and size I have on my cart. They measure 17" ( they're hard filled ) I have some tires and wheels from a junk cart ( same brand and size ), and they measure 17" + change, when inflated. I always thought the first number was the diameter, but I guess I was wrong! Is there a chart that has the tire size as marked vs the actual size? I see posts all the time about 20s and 22s, and is this the same for them? I'm not trying to change tire size, but what I'm asking is when these are all talked about, is the size actual measured size or what's marked on the tire?

Re: Tire size.
Just because they have the same size on them, they are not all the same size,, I find that tires marked ,,18.5x8.5x8,are different sizes. Does not seam that there is a standard ruller used by all tire makes.

Re: Tire size.
It's the same with car and truck tires a 265/70/17 in different brands will vary about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in height. You really have to measure to be sure.

You're sure right about that! I know in the size 18.5 x 8.5 x 8, different brands vary ½" or so. This makes no sense to me at all! I guess this is done so you'll have to get your tire from the same manufacturer.

Re: Tire size.
I have been told that in car/truck tires (ie 265-75-17) the 265 is width, the 75 means the height(profile) from the ground to the rim is "75%" of the 265(width) of the tire.
I agree that these sizes can differ from different tire brands . I have also noticed they have different tread depths also which may play into that as a varible. |

Re: Tire size.
Carlisle gives mounted height and width on their website.
All are mounted on 8" tall X 7" wide rims. 18 X 8.50 X 8 ------ "Links" -------- 17.4" H X 8.5" W 18 X 8.50 X 8 ------ "Fairway Pro" -- 18.2" H X 8.4" W 18.5 X 8.50 X R8 --- "Tour Max" ----- 18.2" H X 8.1" W Nothing I like better than an accurate and consistent measuring/labeling system. Sidebar: Has anyone figured out a way to line things up in columns on this forum instead of the way I tried to do it above? |

Re: Tire size.
Tried it - doesn't work. Same with Cut&Paste from spreadsheet.
Apparently the site software eliminates tabs and extra spaces, and kerns characters rather than using fixed width. Your C&P suggestion did the trick though. Compose in a word processor, C&P into Paint program, save as JPG and embed same as a picture. [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: Tire size.
If you want it to line up properly, use the "code" tag [ code ] and [ /code ] without the spaces:
Code:
All are mounted on 8" tall X 7" wide rims. 18 X 8.50 X 8 "Links" 17.4" H X 8.5" W 18 X 8.50 X 8 "Fairway Pro" 18.2" H X 8.4" W 18.5 X 8.50 X R8 "Tour Max" 18.2" H X 8.1" W |

Re: Tire size.
I bought a replacement 205/50-10 the other day and it was almost 3 inches taller !! Cart was driving in circles Took it back and got another that is the correct height. I guess this tells you to be careful when ordering online if it is not the exact same tire huh ??
