Marathon 2PG Noise
Got an older Marathon gasser with the 2pg engine and it's devoloped a hell a rattle that sounds like its coming from the front of the engine under the aluminum cover under the starter. What lives in there?

Take a close look at the starter mounting brackets, it's not uncommon for these to break. Sometimes noises can travel through engine and sound like something else.

You hit the nail on the head! I pulled the starter and the bracket under the starter that holds the rear starter mount and the muffler bolts (4) all sheared off. Someone tried to drill them out and messed up, missed center by quite a bit. I'm gonna weld grade 8 3/8 bolts and reinstall everything.
