Default 99 ds black box

my brother has a box mounted to the frame between the batteries 2x4x6 postive with fuse on one side negitive on other nothing coming out.its all sealed like a resistor, cart wont charge and blows the fuse

Sounds like a 18>12v reducer. I don't know what that would have to do with the charger? There is another fuse for the charger... does the cart run?

the cart does run, its 48 volt ,fuse at the charger is good,this thing is a aluminum box no top,its filled with a hard black resin positive on right negetive on left no other wires in or out. it has 6 8volt batteries

Photos would help, sounds like a reducer like Scotty said. I don't think they have a pos wire. They just hook to neg. the pos normally comes from the second battery.
