Default Play in governor shaft/oil leak on G22

I picked up a 2005 G22 a few weeks ago and while having the body off for painting, I thought I'd clean up the innards. I noticed the top of the gear case near the shaft for the governor had quite a bit of buildup of crud on it that I thought was mud because there was mud almost everywhere.
When it wouldn't hose off, I found it to be a buildup of gear fluid and dirt caked on there.

When I was wiping it off, I noticed the shaft of the governor to have quite a bit of play side to side. I'm sure the seal (if there is one) is shot, but for those who have taken their gear box apart, does it sound like I have a bad bushing/bearing on the top end of the governor?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Carl

Been there, done that. Not sure the bushing has an official part number.

Thanks for the reply. Any insight on how to replace? I attached a pic I found (not mine) that I have pointed to at the bottom where I think mine is bad.

Can't find much info at all on this. It must not be a common problem, or I'm not using the correct terms while searching.

I think finding the repair bushing is the uncommon part. The seal is easy to find. We are talking about the same thing.

Looks like the bushing is part number: JU0-G6164-00-00 GOVERNOR BUSHING

And the seal is: 93109-10820-00 SEAL, OIL

And of course, with my luck, I assume these are installed from the inside of the trans case before the governor shaft is put in.......(?)

Yep, goes inside the axle housing. I would remove everything to keep any crud out of your gears.

You need to replace the bushing from the inside. The seal can be popped off and a new one installed easy.

However, if the bushing is worn its just going to eat the new seal. Most common cause of the leak is a zip tied governor.
