parts shopping
another dumb question from the impdaddy. I was looking at some parts today from various SPONSORS of this site, who btw are GREATLY APPRECIATED. Can anyone explain to me why there are such wide ranges of prices for the same part. Mind you I only went to sponsors and will only buy from sponsors if at all possible. Thanks for the input.

Re: parts shopping
NO QUESTION ASKED IS A DUMB QUESTION. At this time of year and with the country about at a financial standstill so many sourses of cart parts may be trying to not get caught with high inventory taxes at end of year, or just trying to make a few bucks to save there shirts and feed there families? I know in my own buisness many years ago any left over items that I would have to pay inventory taxes on I was willing to sell at cost or even below?
The following is NOT ABOUT FORUM SPONSORS, BUT BUYER BEWARE as I am seeing some real junk being sold and represented as Quality by using CC boxes through even some CC dealers? Before leaving sellers place of buisness I open a CC brand box and finding a no name, no numbers, no manufacturer label, no bar code, short of nuts and bolts, no instruction, etc I will return parts and go if possible elsewhere? |

Re: parts shopping
Parts themselves are all over the place, both quality and price. Most of what we shop for here is aftermarket stuff and the origin and design vary greatly from say, lift kit to lift kit... There are lift kits out there from $100 to $1000. So try to compare options and the old apples 2 apples. Scotty

Re: parts shopping
I will answer this one, too. Some sponsors are actual working dealerships / shops with overhead, employees, taxes, rent, utilities and rent due each month. These things cannot be paid with a 10% markup. I get 4 or 5 BGW member calls a week to my shop asking how we build a cart and what parts I use or suggest, yet very few order? I'm sorry to say this, but I cannot spend an hour on the phone telling someone how to install a part they bought somewhere else for $20.00 cheaper...

Re: parts shopping
Great responses guys. I do understand running a business with all associated costs and it amazes me when some a$$hole working out of his basement undercuts us legitimate businesses. i kinda forgot that before I asked the question. Thank you for the reminder.

Re: parts shopping
Then again, most new businesses start in those very same basements, or in the case of Microsoft, a garage. Free enterprise works at ALL levels.....

People come to BGW for the most part to learn how to fix and upgrade their golf carts. If you sponsor here you are representing BGW. Intentionally or inadvertently. When members do business, buy product or service, from a Sponsor they expect that they will be given tech support and service if needed. I would expect the same on a Ford truck site (sorry Chevy) I have spent hours and hours online and on the phone helping people make stuff work. I spend hours online with email explaining how to upgrade and what combo of product will give what result... I call manufactures and discuss the products I sell. If you are not willing to do that you shouldn't be selling here in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong? It wouldn't be the first time! ... This ain't walmart |
