Anyone ever broken a rear leaf spring?
So, I'm pulling my '98 Club Car DS into my driveway (I live in Peachtree City, GA - 95 miles of paved golf cart trails!) and heard a loud "pop" and the right rear sagged. I had a friend riding on the back seat and wasn't going very fast. I got under the cart and looked and the rear leaf spring had just broken in half! A clean break, nothing ugly or messed up.
Is this unusual? I did a search here and didn't see any other similar stories... |

Re: Anyone ever broken a rear leaf spring?
If you have a rear seat the stock single spring is going to flex more than normal and could break near spring U bolts mount? You really need to add a pair of extra leafs to a new pair of rear springs. Most carts with HD multi leaf springs ride way too stiff for my liking so just add one extra leaf of same thickness and width but about 2" shorter on each end. I get mine from spring shops or order from large chain auto parts stores.

Re: Anyone ever broken a rear leaf spring?
I have seen this happen twice so its uncommon, but when drag racing or things like sand riding, etc the loss of traction causes spring to try and wind up and do strange things, besides blowing motors up?

I broke a passenger side once, and the drivers side was shaped like a S. Guess that doesn't surprise ya huh Mark. And no, Bud Light was not a factor. Well....maybe a little.

Re: Anyone ever broken a rear leaf spring?
I have seen it happen many times but mainly on EZGOs. It's common to over load them with the rear seats. BTW, I am in Peachtree City as well. If you need a stock spring I have a few that I have taken off other carts, might be a bit rusty but you can have them.
