1993 DS Why won't the charger charge the batteries?
Background: Starting my trouble shooting adventures at the lowest possible level, at least I thought so,I took the charging unit to the Club Car dealer. They plugged it in and said it is working great. (I am new and had no idea that the batteries must have a certain level of charge in order for the charger to work)
I had the batteries tested and they needed to be replaced. I replaced the batteries and the cart runs. Not very quickly. I do not know if the new batteries come fully charged. (US 2200) I noticed a burned out fuse and removed it and the cart still ran with it removed. This fuse is connected to the terminal on battery one. When I plugged in the charging unit nothing happens. I have no wiring diagram or manual. What trouble shooting advice might anyone have on this? Thank you. |

Re: 1993 DS Why won't the charger charge the batteries?
start by getting the wiring diagram for your cart......there should be one here in the stickies........the fuse on battery #1 is like the big blade 250 amp type? if so more than likely the controller was replaced......as for charging make sure the fuse on the charge receptical on cart is ok......its under the seat on top of receptical........if good than you need to get the diagram and make sure your charging wires are there hooked up and good.......should be a wire on the middle right battery and the other on the front left battery..............your problem has to be in that fuse or those 2 wires if charger isn,t coming on at all other than that its the receptical itself................................

Working Now, Thank You.
I printed the wiring diagram, took some pictures, went to the local golf cart supply where they had the proper fuse (the entire part was missing). The wiring had been jury rigged so I cut new proper length wires and fittings put it all together and the charger is now buzzing away.
Next thing is to see that the charge indicator lights on the charging unit do their job. Thanks for the help. If this issue is solved I am going to check the brakes next. |

Re: 1993 DS Why won't the charger charge the batteries?
Thank you. I am doing that and after reading a bit will install a voltmeter. The area in which the cart will be driven is not that large but there is a steep hill and a few trips down and up it will put the batteries to use.
Only after reading several threads on this forum did I decide to just leave the charger plugged in until it either stopped on its own or burned up. Finally after more than 10 hours of charging it stopped. Now I will have a new post on the new question. |
