Default 1996 ezgo txt 36 dcs

Happy Friday,

My 1996 ezgo txt 36v started giving me problems yesterday. Last summer I bought new 6 6v batteries for it and it's been running great. Yesterday I went to back it out of the garage with no problems, it's when I put it in forward the cart just jerks and sputters going forward and works fine in reverse. Is it common for new batteries to crap out so soon? I've been really adamant on the battery maintenance checking water levels every couple of weeks. I almost feel like it's not getting enough power to go forward. Does reverse use all 6 batteries for power?

Appreciate any help

Jesse

If reverse is running normally, the batteries are most likely okay, along with the motor and everything else except the controller.

The difference between forward and reverse is the direction the amps flow through the field windings, which is controlled by the controller.

The DCS controller (Curtis 1206SX) was EZGO's first attempted using SepEx (Separately Excited) drive system and the controller had some bugs, and was soon replaced by the PDS drive a few years later.

Don't waste your money on another DCS controller, replace it with an Alltrax XCT48400-DCS and enjoy.

Appreciate your time JohnnieB.

Any recommendations on heavy duty solenoid with the alltrax setup?

Do I need to upgrade my wires to a larger guage?

Solenoid ought to be 200A or more and if there is the slightest possibility of going to a 42V or 48V battery pack in the future, get one with a coil that will work at the higher voltages as well as 36V now. I went with a MZJ400 (400A continuous / 1000A peak) when I upgraded my controller.

All 10 of the cables ought to be 4Ga or thicker. I went with 2Ga.

Last question do I need to get the Diode & Pre-Charge Resistor with the new solenoid?

Thank you

It needs two diodes instead. See attached schematic for a XCT in a DCS cart.

Some places combine the controller and solenoid as a kit and include the diodes, so check with the vendor if the have to be ordered separately.

Do you have any recommendations on a reputable vendor?
