ezgo starter generator wont charge battery but will turn motor

hey, i gotta 85 ezgo marathon 2pg. ive been having trouble with the starter gen. it will use the battery power to turn the motor but will not produce any to charge it. so every week the battery is dead and i have to take it out and charge it on the bench. i think it could be the voltage regulator is no goood but not quite sure. can anyone help me out? thanks

The problem is probly the green wire on the gen. is not connected. i had the same problem and finally figured it out. with out the green wire connected the cart is more powerful cause the load steals engine power, assuming the 3 pg and the 2pg hhave the same wiring

check all connecton on you rgenerator. if all ok, clean and tight, than you have a bad regulator. It is a 50/50 shot about the green wire being disconnected and reg being bad. those are your only 2 options.

If a starter/generator will start then it will charge so I would be looking for a regulator.Good luck!

is that wire the rtealy slim one because i had taken the generator off a while ago to have rebuilt and i remember now i dont think that the green wire went back one when i put it all togather. where does it go on the generator and where after that? thanks a ton!

on my 3pg its towards the front of the cart and front of the gen. should be a little post to screw a connector to then it goes to the solenoid
