Default KF82 crankshaft loose

Need some help. I pulled my kf82 to fix the cam shaft gear rivets that had sheared off. Got it fixed and got everything back together. The problem now is that the crankshaft has play in it which creates a loud clanking noise while driving. I have pulled the motor and split the case but cannot figure out why the crankshaft is loose. Could it be the seals? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The common failure with these motors is the crank journal eggs-out over time and the rod works its way loose and eventually breaks off. Is that what you mean?

Check this thread too going on right now. Likely the same problem:

There is excessive play in the crankshaft. With the block closed I can move the clutch and the fly wheel back and forth. I can move the flywheel all the way to the block.

I initially thought the excess play was causing the noise but will check the cam tonight to make sure the journals aren't worn out.

Interesting. I haven't seen that be an issue in my experience. The crank is held in place by two large roller bearings, one on each end of the crank, in the sides of the block. When everything is put together I can't imagine where the horizontal play you describe would come from unless something wasn't correctly re-installed (?)
