Default Battery sounds like it's boiling

When I plug my charger in one of my batteries sound like it's boiling and smells funny. It is a off brand replacement of a Trojan battery. Its a 48 volt cart. If anyone has any ideas please let me know

It's gassing which is normal (if more than one was doing it) but, the rotten egg smell indicates a problem. Check the voltage on all the batteries individually and post the numbers here.

I've been charging my batteries and the charger won't seem to go past 12 volts while it's plugged in. I added distilled water to them because they seemed low and since then they haven't been the same. Any help would be appreciated

How much water did you add to the cells? The water level needs to be above the plates but not much, 1/8"-1/4" above the plates is good.

Where are you getting a 12V reading?

I assume that you replaced a bad battery with the clone Trojan. I'd bet some of the rest of the pack are failing and the clone is overcharging/cooking.
A good way to know is check voltage on each battery.

Please post the volts for each battery.

I have to get a tester and then I'll check them and post it. Sorry I meant 12 amps off the charger display. Do you think the bad off Brand battery is ruining my other batteries

The other way around. You'll need the voltage of each battery to see a better picture of what may be going on.

I get the rotten egg smell quite often while its bubbling. Once the charging is finished/ standby the smell stops along with bubbling. I have an OBC Lester charger.

The off Brand one is older and I have a 10 yr old battery also. The other 4 look like newer Trojans. I'll try to test them tomorrow and post the results

Sometimes I assume too much. Forget what I said in my earlier post.

The Trojans will have a date stamp on the negative post, a letter and a single number.
Example: D5 would equal April 2015
The 10 yr old battery, wow....
I do believe your individual battery readings will tell the story. See if you can borrow a digital meter to test voltage with.
