Ate a ring?
I have a 96 CC DS. I am in Michigan and it is cold right now, like highs in the single digits cold.
I’ve been having an issue for a while where it constantly wants choke. I’ve already swapped fuel pumps and pulled the carb off the other day and cleaned it to make sure it wasn’t fuel delivery. Ran it and the issue was still there. I checked the air filter and found that it was torn around the edge where it seals to the airbox. Guessing that is/was the issue. I also noticed the starter/gen belt was loose so I tightened that down as well. I ran it in maintenance mode, revved it up a few times up to the govenor and the choke issue was still there but it was running “normal” with no smoke or issues other than the ongoing choke issue. Shut it down and figured I’d get a new air filter and try that next. Went out today to move it and at first it wouldn’t turn over. First thought was starter/gen belt too tight. Reached in and just spun the clutch less than a quarter turn, hit pedal and it turned over and started right up.......and proceeded to smoke like crazy. Pure oil smoke, first thought was stuck float and flooded but it’s spewing pure oil out of the exhaust. Very clear that oil is getting past the piston and being burned. Plug is oil soaked as well. Ran it for a few minutes hoping it would clear up but it never did, continues to smoke like mad and spewing oil from exhaust. It never smoked at all before and my best guess is I revved it a bit too much yesterday when it was cold and had a cold seize that fragged a ring. Thoughts???? |
