36 to 48 upgrade is as seamless as possible with the Alltrax controllers and the CU MZJ 36/48 solenoid

Picked up the additional 2 batteries today and was planning on installing them in a bit. But looking back through this thread I noticed you mentioned changing the resistor. Is that something I need to do before running on 48v?

Currently it's 250 Ohm I believe

Yep.

However, if you can't get one right away, the worst thing that will happen is you'll blow the 250 ohm resister, which will cause some pitting of your solenoid contacts. Probably not the end of the world, short term.

Well I guess that sets my schedule back a bit.... Would there be a local shop where I could get something like that?

Sounds like a Radio Shack purchase, if they were still around

470 ohm 10 watt I believe. But I did this several years ago with an Alltrax SPM. For SR controllers i believe the diode is built in but you still need the resistor. I would check with scottyb or Alltrax to be sure.
BTW, No mention of this in the installation instructions? I remember the SPM instructions were quite thorough.

I just looked at the wiring diagram on Alltrax' website, and they do call for the resister. I added a few comments to my post above.

It was probably in the instructions, but I was at 36v at the time. The controller/solenoid have been installed for a few months.

I think I'm gonna call a local electrical supply store and see what they have

In a pinch, you can series or parallel them, in case you can't get an exact match. In this case, a little bigger is better, as it will pre-charge the capacitors a little slower, and not risk overheating or blowing.

It is there to lengthen the life of the solenoid. Order one and just leave yours out until the new one shows up. Proceed.

So I can order one form a local golf cart supply place (or online), but he also has a 250 ohm resistor in stock.

Am I better off just being patient and getting the correct one, or get a second 250 ohm and run in series?
