Default Melted a battery post....

So I was hooking up a voltage reducer, and wasn't paying close enough attention and was distracted by my kids. Got some wires crossed, and when I went to connect the positive lead to the battery, it sparked like crazy and caught on fire for a second.

Now that battery post is all screwed up and can't put a nut back on it.

Can I fix that thread somehow? Or will I have to tap a new post into the flat part next to it?

Looks like the battery has embedded low profile terminals, so the may be enough room to use a clamp type adapter as can be seen in this link: https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-BA...s%2C154&sr=8-3

You can probably find something similar at your local auto parts store.

Should it sit like this? Doesn't seem like this new terminal is big enough to fit down onto the base of the post...

do I just need to pry the clamp side of the marine terminal open more? Inside diameter looks to be about 1/16" smaller than the post base on the battery.

I can pry it open farther I think and make it fit, but just worried that seems like a bad idea as far as strong/solid connection goes.

SAE terminals the clamps are made for have two sizes 5/16" for the negative post and 3/8" for the positive post.

Use the larger one (+) and spread as needed.

Also, the walls are thinner on the brass versions of the clamps.

This still doesn't seem right. Having to spread it so far open that I wont be able to secure it with the nut and bolt.

That adapter is not designed to go on that terminal. You are probably going to have to put a stud next to the current one if you can’t clean up the threads

Apparently the post the stud was embedded in was larger than the standard SAE post and battery post clamp isn't an easy fix.

Sorry I mislead you.
