Should I place cart in tow mode before charging batteries ?

Previous owner said to place in tow mode before charging. Previously Charger performed correctly and turned off after full charge. It has now charged for 10 hours and still won't turn off by itself. Checked the batteries and they all read about 8.5v each and overall at 51.04v.

It is not a necessity to place cart in Tow to charge...10 hours may seem long but sometimes carts can charge up to 16 hours before cutting off...It may be an OBC issue but I would give it a bit longer it may just be float charging pack..I'll add that voltage is low for being on charge that long and 16 hours is a time out so may point to other issue such as bad batteries or charger rectifier, etc...

Thanks Camaroluvz for your replay, will troubleshoot some more, perhaps charger isn’t putting out the right voltage. From what I gather the charger will cut out at 60v ??

depending on what charger you have , 10 hours isnt out of normal ......

Charger should cut out at mid 58 range...what age are your batteries? Most batteries have a date code stamped on the negative terminal...will read something like A6...A being the month A= January B= February C= March and so forth ... where as number afterwords is year 6= 2016 7=2017, etc...

Just tried to charge again With the switch on run and the power drive charger would not go below 4amps and the batteries held at 59.15 volts no matter how long I left the charger on. I checked the battery date and it has E-8 stamped. The batteries are Continental golf cart 2gc-8v. Will check again tomorrow but soon after I removed the charger the overall voltage dropped to 54.4v.

Hmmm my next step would be to drive cart around for a while to get pack voltage down, then reset the On Board Computer( which can be found in Sticky) on this site or simply typing How To Reset OBC in google search and try to charge again...could be that simple and others may have other advice...but I would personally start there AFTER testing each battery for a bad cell...one bad battery in a pack can cause this issue as well although yours appear to be May 2018’s...have you checked the water level in the batteries? Should have just enough water to cover the cells when you remove caps...

Let it run. How long has it run? It is not unusual for some chargers to go over 60v.

Let us know how long it has been running.
