The controller is a series cart doesn’t care about f or r other than when it gets the 1/2 speed signal from the micro switch on the f/r. Your problem is not in the little wires ( the solenoid activation circuit) since the solenoid clicks and sometimes goes in f. The activation circuit doesn’t care about direction either. That leaves you with the high amp delivery system.
Have you checked all of the big cables? Nothing is corroded or loose?
Pack voltage is good?
Once confirming the above, I’d take the f/r apart and inspect it before just ordering a new one blindly. If you do need one, check out cartsunlimited for an hd unit. Better yet, get a reversing contactor from the same place.

All big cables are virtually new as I put in new batteries and cables 6 months ago. All tight and clean.

Never taken a fnr apart. Just looking for bad contacts?

I had an intermittent problem that drove me nuts till I discovered that the electric plug going into the brake was not making contact now and again...I removed the plug pushed the contacts in a little on the plug...no more problems...I have a 2009 RXV
