Default Are Lithium Batteries Worth it

My local repair guy has told me my Trojan T1275 batteries (4-12V date code C1 likely need replacing but his battery distributor is having trouble getting T1275's in so I'm inquiring are lithium worth it and what is the adder of lithium over flooded lead acid?
Thanks

For me they are. OTOH I can't comment on the "Drop 'n Drive" lithium batteries that are now out on the market.

The big plus for me is longer drive time (especially in the cold....cold diminishes the run time in Lithium or FLA's) I get with a 14 module pack. Less weight to haul in the back of my pickup by 400+-lbs. No "required charging" after each use. And my most favorite....no battery terminals to constantly maintain!!

But if none of that seems a plus to you....then just stick to the FLA's. Nothing wrong with FLA's under the right user and circumstances.

MHO

I'm looking at about $1,000 for 4 - 12V Trojan T1275's. What would lithiums cost and what brands should I look at? Are they plug and play or does it require charger change or controller change?

You will find that Lithium costs at least double FLA for equivalent range. But they should also last way longer so in the long run they may not cost that much more. You need a different charger to go with them. Unless you are a "do it yourself" guy with some electrical experience, you should find a local dealer to do the swap - one that backs up his work!

Thanks. the repair guy I'm dealing with can't get concrete information from his Trojan battery distributor on when the FLA batteries I need will be available! I gave him to next Monday to get me a date. If he can't get them I'll start searching online.

I'm happy to have him do the work and get FLA 12v T-1275's but I don't want to wait an indefinite period of time to get the batteries.

The bad-The cost of Lithium will be about $2300, but they should last for 15 years. That equates to little higher than FLA if they are taken care of and last 7.5 years (going thru 2 sets).

The good- Lithium requires no maintenance, performance is much better, about 350#'s lighter, charges in about half the time.

If you plan on keeping your cart, good investment.

I agree with Brad. After converting the electric cart I had to Lithium, I wouldn’t own another electric that wasn’t Lithium. It’s definitely worth the cost…

Only downside is cost and availability. I have two G29's both with Lithium Leaf cells. I would not go back to FLA.
