It is hard to tell from the original posters pictures, but it looks like an Alltrax controller. If that is correct, it does not require a pre-charge resistor. You actually don't want one for this application. The broken diode is provided to prevent damage to the controller during regen if power is lost to the controller. It should be replaced.
I might be wrong, but if you install it backward it would not be damaged but would not function correctly, and could give you a high pedal disable fault. |

That depends on how much current it tries to pull. It will short the main contactor terminals if it's installed backwards.

This is in an Alltrax controller. After speaking with the guy that built the cart (David@Revolution Golf Carts), this is what it is.

Again - read the package. It's a "regen diode" that protects the controller if power gets interrupted while the cart is moving!
