Default Annoying persistent battery corrosion

I bought a used golf cart (1999 EZ GO TXT) a couple of years ago and I'm still learning the ropes on maintaining it, while also trying to upgrade it. My latest ongoing issue is fighting this corrosion that keeps popping up on the batteries every couple of months.

Any advice on what is going on here and how to prevent it or at least prevent it from happening so often? I'd like to run these batteries until they give out, so I prefer advice in that direction.

Thanks!

Clean it up real good and then apply some anti corrosion spray.

I wasn't even aware of this type of spray. I'll look it up, thanks!

Does this mean the batteries are going bad?

I would start with a total baking soda bath. Then anti-corrosion spray as previously suggested or silicone dielectric compound. I’ve always heard US batteries are messy but make sure you’re not overfilling them. If you have a battery charger with a programmable charging algorithm make sure it’s set corr3ctly for your batteries.

Never fill batteries that are not fully charged. The water level rises during charge. Corrosion indicates that acid is getting out of the battery somehow. I used to hose my batteries off every so often. Now I only have Lithium which stays clean and shiny.

I use Vaseline on all my battery connections.

When I had FLA's a Union Electrician told me to slather the battery terminal AND 100% of any exposed metal\wire on the battery connector with this "stuff". I did just that and the terminals did not corrode nor get the "green stuff" for a minimum of a year. Honest....this stuff, applied correctly, is the best!

FWIW....I no longer have FLA's....a big plus for no more terminal maintenance!!

One more thing - I always, always prop the seat up when charging the batteries. This allows ventilation and dilution of any acid fumes from the batteries. Since I started propping up the seat, I never see any corrosion.
