Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
Jim, with a 20" tire, it should go faster. Mine will do 26 all day with 23" tires and 80% throttle. You need to take off the seat and drive it and watch where the belt rides in the clutches. Should be at the top of the primary and at the bottom of the secondary at high speed. Then check how much throttle opening you have with the pedal to the floor (because you by passed the gov. right?) Does the motor rev up like you think it should?
Also, you can warp an exhaust valve, running it with an exhaust leak at the head. Sucks cold air in on a hot valve stem! Could also be the last cause of your back fire. |

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
Mike, Yes, gov is still bypassed. Is it safe for the motor, to jack it up and open the throttle to view this, or should the cart be on the ground and moving to check full belt movement? I've done this before, but didn't open her up, for fear of blowing the motor. I never opened the throttle wide enough to see full belt movement.
Trying to drive without a seat would be very difficult! |

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
Motor doesn't have to be full RPM to check clutches. Just in the upper ranges of RPM.
If you have an exhaust leak, I would fix that first. I know, I know. Life's a Btch!! Don't know how fast a valve can warp. Bet RocCrawler knows. No seat; think of it as an adventure!!! I did it tuning a carb. |

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
Mike,
I took some pictures of the drive pulley's. The first picture is of the cart pulley's not moving. The second and third pictures are running the engine at full throttle. It doesn't look to me like the belt is at the top of the drive pully, nor does it look like its going much further than like one inch down on the driven pully. Now, remember, this is a brand new belt. I took a video of it spinning up, but its 20 meg, and don't think the site will let me up load it. What's your opinion? |

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
Ok, Jim, you definetly have clutch problems. Primary should run at top, and sec. at bottom. Do you have the torque spring in? And if you do, did you put the spacer on the imput shaft, it replaces the circlip? You have to remove the circlip and replace it with the spacer. Some one had 2 spacers stacked on the imput shaft, and it wouldn't allow the secondary cl. to open all the way.
Also, tighten the starter belt alittle, It squeeks! |

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
The starter is about shot. That's why it makes that noise.
I haven't touched either one of these clutches. This is how they were, when I got it. I've messed with several go-cart clutches, but have no idea with these. So, that's what I figured too. Something was wrong with them. So, should I take it down to the golf cart repair place to get these fixed, or is it something I can easily do? Cirplip? What in the world is that?!! |

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
hgo to the parts sticky at the top on the page. Look up the expanded view of the secondary clutch. You will see a little ring that slides on the input shaft of the tranny. It is behind the helix/spring seat in the expanded view. Maintenance my friend!
then take the clutch cover off the prim., check the 3 weights for looseness or something out of ordanary. Clean both, 1 pump of grease from grease gun in each zirk. (one on each clutch). Jim go to the sticky (I think 3rd from top) (with my name ; Mike Mac) read about G11. Very good info. that will relate to our cars there. More info. there than in a standard owners manual. |

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
The primary clutch cover phillips head bolts around the cover are stuck. Probably rusted in place. This should be fun!

Re: G8-Is it running correctly?
Soak with wd40 or something, for a few hours, then replace with new. They are in aluminum, so they should come out. I took some of mine out with vice grip, then replaced.
"Never seize" the new ones!! And all others that you take off as well. |
