2000 EZGo series -- what exactly is needed to upgrade to 48 volts?
Alright, hopefully you guys can help out the new girl here. I have a 2000 EZGo series 36v that I want to upgrade to 48v so I can then get a new motor. What exact parts are needed to upgrade and what would you recommend?
I have read plenty about upgrading the controller and motor, etc. but it seems I cannot do this until upgrading to 48v. Also, I am in central NC. Any reputable golf cart service guys in the area? |

Welcome to BGW!
Your existing 36v motor will LOVE running on 48v. You will need a controller rated for 48v, a 48v HD solenoid, 4 gauge cables, a HD forward/reverse cam upgrade, a 48v battery pack, and a 48v charger. These are the items needed to do the job "correctly". |

Thanks for the info. I have seen ScottyB's site before - looks like a great one. The only problem is that I need someone or some company so install this stuff for me. Not exactly mechanically-inclined...especially when talking about wires and whatnot.

That's okay, you don't have to do the work to benefit by knowing what is or in some cases, is not needed.
Tell us about how you are going to use the cart. What you are going to haul. How you will modify the cart. and we can help you insure your mechanic installs the proper components |

Re: 2000 EZGo series -- what exactly is needed to upgrade to 48 volts?
When we bought it, it already had a flip-flop backseat, top, and fold-down windshield. Since then we've installed a 5" drop axle lift kit and 22" tires with 12" rims, as well as 6 brand new batteries.
We got this in lieu of an ATV or gas cart for the quietness and no smell. But we use it for yardwork, riding around the neighborhood, running errands, and light trail riding. We just really want more speed, and a little more torque would be nice. Unfortunately I want the benefits of a gas cart without having a gas cart We LOVE our golf cart but definitely realize it could use some upgrading. |
