Looking at purchasing an 07 Drive
I am looking at an 07 Drive but my friend has warned me that the clutches are terrible. Does anyone have a solution to the clutch misalignment that is from what I am told a known problem?

Re: Looking at purchasing an 07 Drive
The original Drive clutchs were "in alighnment", to "fix" the chirping/grabbing problem Yamaha came up with the idea to drill out the seconday clutch, moving it closer to the transaxle and that resulted in the "misalighnment", but it did help to some extent (i've done over a thousand). There is a company that has a kit that actually adds a return spring to the primary clutch (something the Team clutch lacks) and new rollers, a new belt and a new secondary spring. Tom @ CPP (site sponsor) sells they's kits. I have installed the primary parts in a clutch but have not installed them in a car yet, so I have no good or bad responce. Problem is, if the secondary was updated/drilled, I don't think the kit would work (with the belt/clutchs offset). Might check out CPP web site or give Tom a call. Also...very important, ask if the brake/acelerator pedal assy has been upgraded. Good luck

Re: Looking at purchasing an 07 Drive
2007 were the first year for "The Drive", Yamaha had great visions for the new car, but with all new idea's (don't care what manufacture), there can be flaws or things to sort out/fixed. Frame/susppension/engine very sound, clutchs/ pedal group may or may not have been updated. If you can PM me the serial number, I might be able to see what has been done to the car under warranty.

Re: Looking at purchasing an 07 Drive
Is the car in question 1) A fleet car with thousands of rounds on it? 2) A private car with a few hundred rounds on it? The Drive, like all Yamaha's, is a good car. I have 20 2007's at my courses. They have several thousand rounds each on them and just keep on going. The clutch/belt chirping, debris in the pedal group, and driver side seat tears are my only complaints. The factory clutch repair that smallblock mentioned (he repaired my carts) worked great. The aftermarket clutch kit sounds even better though.

Re: Looking at purchasing an 07 Drive
The 2013 Drives (std and EFI) have had all these problems corrected/updated. They have opened the pedal area for years, but now use older style Yamaha pedal parts that are repairable if needed. They also have gone to new style greaseable clutchs. I'm vey happy with them so far
