The finish charge voltage may not be high enough.

All 36V ferroresonant transformer type chargers with control boards terminate the charge when the on-charge voltage climbs into the 44V to 46V range and US Battery products need 45V to 46.8V, so if the curve of normal distributing applies to PW-28115 chargers and US Battery batteries only about half of the chargers will adequately charge only about half the batteries, and Murphy's Laws apply, so the probability of having a charger that puts out less than 45V and batteries the need more than 45V is significantly higher than 25%.

Can the PW-28115's (or other ferroresonant transformer type charger) cutoff voltage be adjusted the the range needed by US Battery Products? I don't know, I've never tried it nor have I heard of anyone doing so.

Best bet is to use a modern multistage charger whose charge profile library includes profiles specifically for US Battery products.

Attached are the US Battery charging profile for their products using a Single stage ferroresonant transformer type charger and the Technical Service Bulletin that applies to the problem.

Thanks JohnnieB,

Can you please confirm this:

That kind of sucks. The US Batteries are about the price I want to pay. ($90 each) The cheapest I can find the Trojan is $104.

Any others I should look at? It seems most people around me have:

Trojan T105
US Battery - 1800, 2000, 2200
Powertron

A Powertron is a Trojan clone, so your PW-28115 ought to charge it as well as it would a T-105.
It only has 216AH vs the 225AH for the T-105, but if you don't need the range it might work for you.

Thanks JohnnieB,

Will the powertron last as long as the T-105?

No. Average SoC maintained is a major factor in battery lifespan and the P2200 is only 216AH while the T-105 is 225AH, so if you take a trip that uses 67.5AH the SoC of the T-105 will be 70.0% and the P2200 will be 68.8%.

Not all that much of a difference, but it is a month or two in the cradle to grave usable life. There are so many other factors effecting lifespan, that a couple months may not be noticeable.

Thanks JohnnieB,

To be honest, I’m kind of lost on what to do. Each dealer talks **** about the other brands. Trojan dealer said Powertron and US sucks. I have been told the US battery tech is reviewing my charger to see if it would in fact fully charge them. The other dealers only carry the cheaper Trojan. The interstate batteries and more expensive than all of them. Plus, I only got a little over 2 years with my Interstate.

On one hand I want to spend as little as possible (Powertron) but on the other hand I would like at least 5 years and don’t mind paying more. (Trojan). I just wish I knew for sure how long each lasted.

There is no answer to "just how long they will last for you". Each individual use case is different. I have seen hardcore 6 day a week golfers blow through a set of interstates in 2.5 years (decent maintenance). This isn't a spending spot to save $40.

Go lithium! You can get a lot of 7 ~ 60 AH Leaf modules from a seller on eBay for under $600 and a low end BMS already programmed to work with that pack for under $50. That lithium option weighs under 100 pounds, will shave a lot of weight off of your cart.

Thanks Guys,

I know there isn't a "set in stone" how long the batteries last I just wish there was.

Lithium, really? I know nothing about this.
