Faulty speed controller ???
Evening,
36 volt Ez-go Textron. Its an older cart. 1991 K0591 Key is between the legs along with a reverse and forward switch. Does not have a tow/run switch. Solenoid clicks works fine. Been trying to diagnose and issue with my cart but seem to hit a wall. Batteries are older but all charge up to almost 38 volts and seem to hold a good charge. When I get in it and press the gas petal it moves but when I put the pedel to the floor it doesn't speed up, just slowly moves. I put a DVM to the to the M terminal and the B terminal on the speed controller it starts off at 0 but only rises to 30 volts max. According to my research, it should reach the voltage of the battery bank, which mine is 36 volts after resting. Am i correct when i assume the controller is dead? Or should I try something else before replacing it. Thanks in advance for any input. John |

Re: Faulty speed controller ???
That’s a 91. Have you checked for 0-5k (approximately) ohms in the potentiometer wile pressing the pedal?

Re: Faulty speed controller ???
Nope, I have not checked the potentiometer. Is that the unit where the rod from the accelerator enters? I will check that, maybe its not getting the correct input readings from the pedal? Excuse my ignorance.

Re: Faulty speed controller ???
Yes that’s right. Take the black and white wires from the controller from the potentiometer and put your multimeter on them. See what the resistance is. It should start very near 0 and go up to around 5,000 ohms.

Re: Faulty speed controller ???
Yes, I switched batteries out, just to rule out that when I first started diagnosing it.
Ok, looked up the test for the potentiometer and these are results. With DVM on black and white wire from potentiometer, key off in neutrul with accelerator completely depressed, it reads 6.95. Attached a few pictures |
