Default 1985 ez-go marathon is weak( I think)

I'm new to golf carts. A family member gave me the marathon. It's 36volts, has bigger tires and a lift kit. I checked batteries with a hydrometer and looked for loose connections, all batteries tested good. The cart moves ok, but hills are a challenge, to the point, I can walk faster and I mean the asphalt roads in the nieghborhood. Is there a way to test the voltage going to the motor a full pedal to ensure I'm getting 36volts. I'm going to take one battery and have it load tested to make sure the hydrometer isn't lying to me. Thanks

Hook your voltage meter up to the main battery pack positive and negative and watch what the voltage does while going uphill and let us know.

How old are the batteries?
Make sure your charger is fully charging the entire pack.

Big tires, lift, and 36 volts are all working together to kill what little torque your cart can give...

Hey Folks,

Been a busy couple weeks, not to mention rain rain and cold weather. I did the voltage test.
1. Initial voltage 36.38
2. climbing and cresting the hill voltage drop to as low as 30.83.
3. brought it back and parked, it may of traveled 1/4 mile in total, voltage 34.50

Point me in some direction please. Thanks

Those batteries are no good. The starting voltage even is low. Was that after a full charge?

Yes, that was a full charge. If the batteries are dead it's going to cost $650 for new ones. I have a opportunity to purchase a 1994 ezgo gas work cart doesn't run(carb issue) asking $850. The 1994 work cart has aftermarket wheels and tires with original utility bed. Would you buy the batteries or the gas cart?

Thanks
