Default Throttle Question

Hi all, got a throttle question for you all since I am only new at this. I have a stock standard 48v EMC golf cart, it has a Curtis controller in it and it uses a ITS as the throttle controller. If you run at half throttle while playing will this heat things up higher than they should. I ask because after playing 9 holes the boy tells me it started surging, I am thinking the controller got hot or something he also tells me the solenoid was clicking while surging. I will be checking the connectors at a later date, any input would be very helpful. Thankyou in advance.
