Re: 48v club car charger wont shut off
I think you should stop charging these batteries. Excessive heat can do permanent damage to the cores. IF your batteries have passed all of the hydrometer testing and LOAD TESTS then you can be certain that the batteries are okay. Compare your readings to this chart. The charger tested okay on another cart. The only thing left in the charging system are the cables and the OBC. Provided all of the cables and charging leads are clean and you have tugged on them to check if they are solid ....then I would change out the obc..... Someone else may have a different opinion but IF the batteries and charger and cables are all good then the OBC is suspect.

Re: 48v club car charger wont shut off
I dont know about another opinion But ,
I am amazed the charger stays on for 20 Hours . I thought the way the OBC/Charger combo worked is that even after 16 hours and still charging , it would cut itself off to prevent Battery Damage ????? Is this not true ??? |

Re: Charger wont shut off - Scotty help
Scotty help --- I ran these batteries for over a year with a timer to shut off the charger.... because cart actually ran fairly well speed wise but batteries now wouldnt hold a charge.... So i just bought a new set of Trojan T875.. ran cart to check out for about 5 minutes. Now wanted to check to see if charger would finally shut off by itself... When first plugged charger in -- it started off at 20 amps but in about 30 minutes went down to about 5 amps.. then an hour later to a little less than 4 amps... 3 hours later stayed at that - a little less than 4 amps... I shut charger off for fear of hurting my new 700 dollar batteries.. I seen one of you post about a month ago -- it takes about 10-12 hours for new batteries to recharge.. but is that after only 5 minutes use?????? Mine were on for about 5 hours and charger did not shut off.. if you look thu this thread you see what happen in the past.. I have not used cart all that much in a years time.. The speed of the cart was as fast as it is now with the new batteries but would only last about a hour or 2 of running before batteries were dying but that is all i needed so that is why i waited all this time to get new batteries... but it looks as if batteries may not have fixed this problem.. One of my last post on this over a year ago was i left charger running overy 20 hours and wouldnt shut off.. Should I allow it to run the full 10-12 hours you suggest with the new batteries? Or at this point what do you think may be wrong. At this point until it is resolved how do i charge my cart without damaging my new batteries??? As i said i use a timer but im really not sure how long to leave the timer on. Can i measure the voltage of the total batteries and based on that keep the timer on for so long???

Re: 48v club car charger wont shut off
You should never run a cart on new batteries before a full charge! Follow the proper brake-in procedure if you want to get long life from them.
