I would advise cleaning the entire engine. Its an air cooled engine and if it cant get air its not going to last long at all.

That sure looks like no oil getting to the valve train.I would certainly check the hose that feeds the cylinder head.

Yeah I was gonna say those valves do look pretty dry. Like mentioned above it wouldn't hurt to give the engine a good bath for better cooling

thanks again for all the expert knowledge. i'll be spending this weekend cleaning up the engine for better cooling.

little or no oil to valve train concerns me, any picks on the hose that gets oil to the valve train on the G9.

looking like this engine is going to need some special attention at the end of the season.

Thanks again for the help!

You have to fix these problems before you even start it again, or you will destroy that motor!

Thanks for the expert help. taking this one to an expert this weekend to get back into working order as its at the campground and I'm at home during the week. I will post what the results are when I get it back. Looks like its going to be our backup cart.

Heading out to shop for a new one this weekend... not sure what we are going to get yet. I'm looking at brand new Yam or EZ go may be gas or electric. I want a new one that has a warranty. comparing prices I can get a new one for almost the same price as a used one.

any experts have any input on new ezgo vs. Yamaha gas in terms of common problem seen?

The new yamaha gas and electric 2016 models are definately on point now. Ac drive electric carts and the gas carts now have all the good componants. Good clutch and good read ends.

G9 is a lot more fun with a clone engine anyway lol! But yes it has some issues. There is a tube up the back of the cylinder and the passenger side that has a valve in it. Need to clean all those and the valve, likely nobody changed the oil for years I'd guess. People don't always do any maintenance on them.

G9 is a rock solid cart, but they are from the 80s and may not have been cared for that well and have some age on them. But you can get any parts for them, once repaired they last just as long as the first time. I just put a new start solenoid on my G9 this year, I've had it since it was 7 years old so I am pretty sure it was original.
