TXT Smoking when going up steep hills
I recently purchased a lifted 2005 TXT and it ran fine for a while, but now when I go up hills it looses power and starts smoking from the muffler. It will eventually pull the hill and stop smoking, but it just recently started doing this. Any ideas on what I can do to remedy this or what may be causing it?
Thanks, Jason |

Re: TXT Smoking when going up steep hills
Lifted carts require 1.5 quarts of oil, and the dipstick is wrong because of the angle.
Too much oil could cause your issues. |

Thank you. I will check the oil levels and see if that is it. I have had electric carts in the past, but gas is all new to me.

Your best bet is to just drain the oil and refill it with just a hair under 1.5 because it almost never all drains out. Be gentle tightening the 10mm bolts back. If you strip one it will ruin your day.

Clean your air box too. I believe there is also a breather line connected to it.

To add to this, once you get exactly 1.5 qts, scribe a line on the dipstick to indicate the new correct fill level. The only other issue you may need to check is compression. Leaking rings or valve seals could cause you to smoke as the load increases. Just a thought.

Pardon tacking on to an old post, but this one helped.
So I bring home the new Valor on Saturday. Kids are all excited, stuck vinyl Halloween stickers all over it and we go for our first ride. I'm going up a long hill and hear my wife in the back ask "um, is it supposed to smoke like that?". Huge clouds of smoke coming out. Reminded me of a 68 Chevy pickup I had that was in bad need of a rebuild. Finish going through the neighborhood and same thing on every hill. Thanks to this site and post I checked the oil and sure enough it was a good ways past the "full" mark on the dipstick and I'm not sure if the dipstick is correct from the factory since it comes with a 2" lift. The dealership was still open but I didn't feel like driving 45 minutes each way just to drop it off and come back another day to pick it up if that's all the issue was. Sunday morning I drain the oil, put in the recommended amount and no more smoking. A little annoying on a brand new cart but simple enough to fix. It does make me wonder what else I should check to make sure it was set up correctly though. |

Re: TXT Smoking when going up steep hills
TArider, I also bought a new 2015 TXT Valor this summer. no problems with the oil being over full BUT after it was parked in the yard for a couple of days in the same spot I saw the grass was dead in one spot. After crawling under it I noticed that the drain screw on the carb was not tight and it was leaking gas. easy fix with a twist of the screw. Other than that I love the cart! I did however switch out the tries to an all all terrain. The speed racer tires ride good but SUCK in wet grass or off the pavement.

@WVHarley, thanks, I'll check that next. I'll keep the tires in mind as well. One of the things I wanted the cart for was to pull a utility trailer up a hill to the driveway when I need it so will need a grip on wet grass.
