ez go wont idle
i have a 1985 ezgo.when i press the accelerator it hesitates like starter/gen is weak.but then it turns over and starts.but it doesnt have an idle mode.it goes even with accelerator barely pressed.the varible speed clutch on engine seems to be working fine and so does the one on the differential but it is beat up pretty bad like someone hit it with a hammer.could this damaged pulley not be letting the belt slip at low rpm

Post a pic, are you saying its like the clutch is always engaged and the cart moves the second the motor turns over?

yes that's what it is doing but the variable speed clutch seems to be working fine

Do you have the proper belt or has it been replaced and to short. With damage to the driven clutch at some point someone tried to remove it or it has stuck and they tried to free it up. I'd start there. The driven should be closed and the drive should be open when not running.
