Unhappy Will not go forward, only goes in reverse, NOT cable, NOT fluid

Cart wont go forward. I've removed the cable and shifted it by hand, still nothing. I've topped off the fluid too.

I've searched this forum and it seems like most have cable problems only...

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your time.

Was the fluid ever low? Shifting gears using the lever moves a cable back and forth that actuates a forked arm inside the transmission that moves an outer gear over top of some inner gears. When you use the shift lever, is that movement smooth?

It is possible the forward gear is bound up on the shaft it is on, when it should be spinning freely on the shaft and independent of the neutral and reverse gears. We had this problem on ours after the fluid ran low over time. We had to take the trans out and split the case to take the shaft out and free up the stuck gears. Then we lubed it up and put it back together. You may notice other damage if the fluid ran dry. We had to replace a spacer washer that was shaved down a little.

It could be an involved process.

What year and model? Does it pop out of gear and grind when you attempt to go in forward or does it just stay in gear and do nothing?

Hello all, thanks for the replies.

It's a mid 2000's drive train with a 290 Kawasaki motor.

Yes, the fluid was low and it had been taken apart by the previous owner.

It does NOT grind or pop out of gear. It just doesn't move.

It's probably a broken or damaged thrust washer on the synchronizer. It's not too bad to repair. The parts are cheap.

Ok, the jamming into forward worked! I tried it about 6 times with no luck. The last time I hit the shifter (cable detached) with a hammer going full speed in reverse. It kicked it into forward and the cart now goes into forward, but seems stuck in low gear. Motor is high rpm, but is slow.

Driven (back/rear) clutch doesn't seem to be opening up and allowing the belt to slide down. Sprayed WD40 on shaft and turned it by hand. Belt seems good. Searched on here, but didnt find a solution....
