Default motor wiring question

I bought a Bandit motor back in may of 2014 and it is a fast little bugger but I am looking at upgrading my system to get some more torque to make it up my hills on my property. But first I have a question. When I first got my Bandit I had also installed a new regen 2 (GE controller) and when I wired everything back to the book things ran backward. Forward was Rev and Rev was forward. The guy I had been working with (someone from the board who works at a club car dealership in service) said he had saw this before and just to flip the leads on the controller I think, either way I changed the motor leads or the controller leads. its been 2 years lol
My question is and I should have asked ASAP but I was so excited to get my project cart going that I picked up that I didn't ask. Is that motor ok hooked up that way? Am I actually running the motor backwards? Or doesn't the motor care? aA I loosing torque and power by flipping the leads?
then the question is, is the motor wires crossed or did someone rebuild the controller worng? It is a reman. controller.
What do you think?
I have a 1998 Club Car Regen cart.
