Rear End Questions
Fellas,
I apologize for all the questions but I am not a mechanic by any means. However, I love projects, learning, and when I do things I like to do them right! 1- What is the item in the first picture? Almost looks like a grease fitting type thing. It has a cap that goes over it very loosely. Inside the cap is a spring and washer type thing. 2- I removed the rear end pieces to paint them and notice there is some type of gasket compound... what should I use when I re-assemble? 3- What kind of oil is used in the pumpkin? 4- While I have the axles off should I replace the bearings? When I spin them, one will spin for double the amount of time as the other. Looks like a c-clip is holding it on. Is there only one on each axle? |

Re: Rear End Questions
looks like fill port, cap , breather cover
Manufacture says elect : 30 w, ( gas : 90w ) (I'd go synthetic ): Link : Cart Rear end oil Sure easy enough to do the bearing now , probably as old as the cart. |

Re: Rear End Questions
1st pic is the breather cap. It's on loosely to vent gases from the case when oil is heated.
When I replaced the motor on my '99 DS electric I used synthetic Lucas 80W-90 gear oil. Good luck! EDIT: As for the bearings, they look pretty worn to me and if I had everything disassembled already, I'd go ahead a replace them to be safe. They're not too pricey for the piece of mind. |

Re: Rear End Questions
NCPW aren't you suppose to use 30W for an electric cart? you used synthetic Lucas 80W-90?? So I guess someone could use 30W synthetic for an electric cart? ?
Thanks, Steve |

Re: Rear End Questions
This has been debated several times here. 30w motor oil is frequently specified but some people favor gear oil in the "gear" reduction drive.
In any case, as you can see by the chart 80-90w gear oil has the same viscosity as 30w motor oil. So the consensus here seems to be you can use either including synthetics. |

Re: Rear End Questions
Exactly what kernel said. I read through multiple threads on here about the subject and afterwards figured 80W-90 was best suited for me and what I needed my cart to do. (But TBH, I now can't remember what that reason was )

Does anyone by chance know what gasket compound to use for the rear?
