ive seen it several times. even after a rebuild, rings installed in correctly or cylinder bored incorrectly. Not being smart just put a compression gauge on it.

one trick I know on 2 strokes

heat the spark plug on stove
put the hot plug in the motor[
[ careful not burn yourself ]
if it is going to run it will with a hot plug

you say wet plug it seems like you either have a chokeing issue like a plugged air filter or a plugged exhaust do you get any air out of the pipe? Could the needle in the carb be sticking dumping gas?

Then you never had spark to begin with. Bad CDI = no spark.

that happens too! you get some spark on a tester and it looks good.
These old systems and their diagnostic tests are not 100 percent perfect.

ive had coils test bad several times and still perform perfectly

Bad CDIs will not produce spark. The coil is slave to the CDI. If the CDI is bad the condition of the coil is irrelevant.

When CDIs start going bad they may produce a spark or two at the beginning of the ignition cycle. Nowhere near enough to start the engine and nothing that one could ever confuse with "good" spark.
