yamaha G1 engine tuning?
Hello Guys, I have a 1979 G1 I am working on for a friend, it was rough & ran terrible when she bought it, & I am trying to refurb it for her.
I cleaned the carb & various other maintenance tasks & got it running pretty decent, the only thing now is, when the governor apparently kicks in, it seems to load up the carb & flood/foul the engine? not really familiar with characteristics of a governor, so, hoping for some guidance what to look for or adjust to solve this issue. all advice is greatly appreciated & thanks in advance! |

Re: yamaha G1 engine tuning?
The governor acts to override gas pedal input and close the carb, so this doesn't add up to a flood...

Re: yamaha G1 engine tuning?
and the G1 has a great little engine. You can bypass the governor by connecting throttle cable directly to carb and disconnect linkage between CVT and carb. Site sponsor Plowmans has great knowledge and parts for the G1

Re: yamaha G1 engine tuning?
Yeah, that wouldn't be governor related.
Do you know how to adjust the carb's float bowl? It might be filling up too much. Also, you can try turning in the fuel screw on the carb some to see if that helps. |

Make sure the muffler is not plugged up. You can pull it lose on engine so it leaks a lot and test run it to test for change.

Re: yamaha G1 engine tuning?
Thanks guys,
issue is, it runs good until maintaining top speed & presumably when governor kicks in, it runs poorly & has no power or acceleration, get back in the garage & pull plug & clean it & crank engine with plug out, Then reassemble:everything is fine again? |

Re: yamaha G1 engine tuning?
Sounds like you are flooding. Those things you are doing (pull plug and such) would have no affect on the governor whatsoever. They would have an effect on a engine that's getting too much fuel. Try turning in the idle mix screw on your carb to lean your gas out some. Check that carb float as well.
