Melted battery terminal repair

How deep do you drill? I replaced a battery yesterday and can repair the removed one for a spare. Thanks

They allow me to drill a hole smaller than the actual Lag portion of the bolt, I screw down 2 - nuts and use an impact gun to drive them into the hole I just drilled. After bottoming it out, I simply remove 1 of the nuts, place my wire on and resecure with lockwasher and nut. Overall time to repair a battery with a melted post.... Under 3 minutes start to finish.

I stopped at Lowes and bought two two packs of the 5/16" hanger bolts that were zink coated. The 4 bolts cost $2.50 total. They did not have stainless. I drilled a 3/16" hole the length of the lag screw end of the hanger boalt and installed th bolt. It looks like a great repair. Tomorrow I think I will remove the new battery and put the old one back in.
