ez go 1996 txt
Hi everyone.
I have started to renovate my fathers 1996 txt that's been stood for a long time. I'm replacing the brake cables and throttle as their sized amongst other things. I noticed that its leaning on the drivers side. Its sitting around 15mm lower on that side. Am I right in thinking I need to replace the shockers or would it be the leaf springs also? I have levelled the rear axle on Axle stands and its still out so its not the tyres Trying to keep the cost down as much as I can really. Thanks |

Re: ez go 1996 txt
The leaning would not be caused by the shocks. I'd be inspecting the leaf springs. If one side is lower than the other I'm thinking you have a broken leaf spring or bracket/ubolt, something along those lines. It's not uncommon.

Re: ez go 1996 txt
Thanks "slonmo"
hmm, I cant see anything broken with the leaf springs. ill see if the u bolts will come loose and if so I can swap them round, so in theory if there dodgy it should lean then to the right hand side. perhaps there just worn after always having a 15st person on that side with no passenger. |

As slo said, not shocks. Springs support the vehicle. Shocks just keep it from bouncing and control the bounce.
I’d guess the spring on that side is just worn out. Probably best to replace them both. |

It's a 1996, so 25 years old. Many carts spend much of their time with just the driver onboard. It' not uncommon for the springs on that drivers side to get mashed down a bit over those years.

Re: ez go 1996 txt
thanks everyone, having taken the leaf springs out and comparing both sides its clear that there's some difference in both.
i have lots of parts to replace on it now, brake cables + pads, leaf springs, axle iso mount and bush. the list goes on and on. I am quite surprised at how much these items cost here in the Uk. Is there a well known affordable retailer or maybe a second hand outlet in the Uk that you'd recommend? many thanks |

I have been watching videos on recurving leaf springs because of this thread. If you have access to a press, you can do it.

Re: ez go 1996 txt
After taking all the suspension parts off. It was clear that the leaning was due to the leaf springs had seized in a certain angle, hence the leaning. So iv replaced the bolts, bushes and shackles. New iso mounts and shockers also.
I'm having trouble aligning the iso monut back into the leaf springs now. Seems the rear axle is slightly further back to where it should be so im not lining up with the stud in the centre of the leaf spring. Am i doing something wrong or missed anything? Should i loosen the front engine mount? Any help much appreciated 👍🏼 |

Re: ez go 1996 txt
Measure the distance from each bolt eye to the pin in the "middle". I know later models the pin is not centered...I thought these earlier models were, but maybe not, and you have it in backward? If it is truly in the center of the spring, everything should line up. I'm guessing you just need to manhandle the rearend back into place as with the prior lean, the engine mount would have wanted to sit at a bit of an angle. That front engine mount is a pivot...and it should pivot readily with some effort.
