2003 gas DS No reverse

I'm sure this is around somewhere but I did not find it in the search. Good to see the searches on this forum are as useful as the harley forum.🙂

Trying to fix my grandma's buggy, 2003 DS gas. It will not go into reverse. Most things I have found leads to the F/R switch. Are switches for gas and electric the same? Any other suggestions of what else it may be? I am also going to replace the belt. Just want to make sure I get the right stuff for her.

If it starts in forward there's nothing wrong with the switches.
Make sure the shift cable is not broken.
Make sure the shift lever on the trans goes all the way into reverse when the hand lever is pushed.
It's possible for the synchro rings trans to get stuck and prevent the trans from turning at all. If this is the case, and you are not able to push/roll the cart with it in reverse, then get the cart moving forward at full speed, then jam the brake and jam the lever into reverse at the same time, and that usually gets it freed up.

Ok, will check the cable and make sure it is not broken and goes all the way into reverse.. Are you saying I should be able to push the cart backwards when it is in reverse?

Yeah it should roll if you push it, no matter what gear it’s in.
If the synchro rings are jammed then it will roll in one gear but be locked in the other, and you won’t be able to push it.

OK, got it narrowed down to the F/R cable. It is not completely going into reverse. The cable seems to bind at the trans side. I put the sleeves back in place and greased the cable. It worked for a bit, but slipped back out and bound up again. Is it new cable time or does that seem to be able to adjust that out? Thanks

I'd just get a New cable from Club Car.
The end sleeve coming off sounds like that's a cheapo chinese cable or it's been yanked or bent and abused.

The new cables form Club Car don't come with the swivel ends so remove those from the old cable if you can. If they're seized on there then be sure to order new ones with the new cable.

Got the new cable on today. Very simple process. I will say I don't like the angle of the cable at the rear support bracket.
I can see why these fail at this point.

Kinda hard to tell, but that bracket looks bent to me. Should be an almost straight shot from cable to lever, and the cable should not be underneath the shock support bracket on the frame.
