Default 2000 EZGO Generator/Starter Intermittent Starts

I have a 2000 EZGO starter giving me intermittent starts. I thought it may have been the brushes because you could rotate clutch and it would start. I replaced the brushes, sanded the armature and it is still doing the same thing. I guess the armature must have a bad spot in it. My question is would it be easier and cheaper to rebuild starter or just buy a new one? Thanks

I would think it is a ground problem. Have you checked to see if you have 12 volts going to starter wire when it don't turn over ? These original starter/generators outlast most carts.

No I haven't checked to see if it had 12 volts going to starter since you could turn clutch a little and it would start.

Is this one of those starters that needs a smaller pulley? I don't know what years were affected.

I believe those are the ezgo's with the Kawasaki engine cartaround.

I never remember having problems with the robbin 4 stroke engines doing what his is doing other than starter brushes and ground problems. I could be wrong because I slip everyday as time rolls on

I would check that braided ground cable that goes down to plate and across to back of starter real good .
