Default 91 club car running hot and needs choked to run

Hello All,
I recently purchased a 1991 Club Car Gas ( Kawasaki 341cc flat head single cylinder engine). The cart seems to run really hot. within a minute of driving even the body surrounding the seat is hot. I already replaced the carb, plug, fuel pump/filter. Additionally, the engine seems to get too much air. The guy that sold it to me had a plastic cap over the airbox inlet with some holes drilled in it. When I take this off cap off it does not seem to run as good.

It seems like it is getting too much air and is running hot. Does anyone know what is going on here? Please help!

Thank you !

Did you replace the air filter? Another thing is these motors are finicky when it comes to the air box/choke. You should have a stock setup in there and it sounds as if somebody has changed things. Also, are you running the correct plug? Other than running what you call "hot" is it running OK?

That is a really nice cart. Seems to me I have seen one somewhere VERY similar to that one.

After re-reading the title of this thread I see you are "choking" it to make it run. Did you replace the carb with a Club Car one? It sounds to me as though the motor may be running too lean.

Agree with mooncarter re the airbox. Can you send pics of the engine compartment and airbox?

He’s from ocala. Knowing that, I’m guessing he’s probably got dial up and gotta wait for the right time of year for even that to work

Ocala is good for woods, airboats, and mud trucks. A tech giant it is not

IDK. From the photo it looks like he might be in the nearby Villages.
