Re: SAMs battery quality
Same here. Will I get 7 years out of them? I'm willing to gamble on it. Then again, my cart only gets used 7 months of the year, so my 7 years are different than others.

Re: SAMs battery quality
I look at it like this.....
Consider that all of your maintenence is equal regardless of the type of battery you purchase: If you purchase a set of Sams batteries for $420 and you get 3 years out of them (which is WAY more than I have been seeing people get), then you are averaging $140 per year on your batteries. If you purchase a set of Trojan/Crown/Interstate batteries for $600 and get 6 years out of them (which is a good baseline for AVERAGE maintence on a quality set) then you are averaging $100 per year on batteries. Net result: $40 more dollars per year to be invested in other things just by purchasing quality batteries instead of trying to be cheap at the onset....... Over the course of 6 years, you could purchase a nice Carbon fiber dash with the money you have saved. |

Re: SAMs battery quality
Most Sam's clubs don't run the Interstate batteries. Most of them sell the Energizer brand or another knock off brand. The ones that carry the Interstate brand are usually a little higher on the cost of the battery. In my area, there is only 1 location that I am aware of (out of 9 different Sams clubs I regularly visit) that carries the Interstate battery.

Re: SAMs battery quality
Battery choice is always a contentious subject, everyone has an opinion and no one is wrong.
I had 2004 T-15's in my cart until I did a conversion and selected the 8v Energizers from Sam's Club to do the job. They have the same specs as the T-860 Trojans and although not the top rated run time they will do what I need. I have a HF IOTA charger that cuts off at 59v and holds them floating at a constant 54v. While I only have a couple of charge cycles on these, I did some running around the neighborhood then 9 holes of golf and when I was done I still had a 51.2v charge in the bank. Considering 50.9v is considered a full charge I would say that these batteries work just fine. There certainly is a little luck of the draw when it comes to batteries as every manufacturer can have a bad one but I firmly believe that maintenance is the key to battery life and brand is almost secondary. |

Re: SAMs battery quality
Although I have only had mine since Dec. 2010 I am very satisfied. I have never had any other batteries for golf carts so I can't compare. I will say that I live in fairly hilly terrain and ran 13 miles on a full charge and when I got home I still had not drained the pack of 8 (6volts) down to 75% as per scottyb's break in procedure. I had my two kids which are about 100 lbs together and myself at 175lbs. This was with stock tires and 48 volt system with 480 amp contoller. I haven't had any problems from the thus far.

Wish I could find Trojans around here for $100 a piece!! Not a chance - the Trojan Pacers are $105.

Re: SAMs battery quality
Batteries at Sam's club are NOT the same nationwide at any given time. They buy lots as well as carloads and distribute regionally. The inventory of each store is VERY fluid, so if you visit a store and see something you like, better buy it right away because when it's gone, it's GONE.
