Batterys Leak

I have a 2002 (AQ0231) Club Car and one or more of the batterys are leaking acid when charged. After charging and moving the cart I always find a small puddle of acid on my garage floor right under the batterys. The tops of the batterys appear to be a little damp. They are trojon batterys. You can hear the batterys sizzling a little even after being on charge for 12 or so hours (maybe normal). The charger is showing about 5 amps after the same period of charging. I bought it from an individual that buys and sells carts from his home as a "hobbie", so iam thinking he may have unloaded a problem child on me.

All new to the cart world so I have no clue!

8V batteries? How old are they? 48 volt regen IQ system? How low do you run them before a charge? You need to get a reading of your entire battery pack about an hour after a charge. If you just bought the cart, he more than likely just filled the batteries with distiled water and over filled them and it is bouling out. Also if the batteries are weak or you have a bad one or two in the pack it could also let the charger run longer than it should to try to bring the pack up and they get hot. Get a reading on the pack and each battery 1 hour after a charge and post them here. Also, load test them each if you have or have access to a load tester. Digital multimeter and a load tester are a must for electric cart owner! There is a sticky at the top of this section that tells the State Of Charge for batteries. Once you get your readings with the DMM, compair them to the chart and let us know.

Likely your batteries are over filled. Check your water levels.

Normally batteries should not charge for 12 hours.
You may have one or more 'bad' batteries which is why the charger cannot get a high enough reading on the pack the pack to shut off. the problem is that it is over cooking any good batteries left in your pack.... you need to take it back or sort it out.


Have you got a voltmeter and hydrometer yet?

When I bought my cart it had old reconditioned batteries in it and I was experiencing the same results you are getting now. It seems some people that buy and sell carts as a hobbie will put the cheapest batteries that will make cart go long enough for a test drive. In fairness the guy I bought mine from told me I would need knew batteries. The thread above is where the guys helped me test my new batteries, since I was still slow, but the same principles would apply to testing your batteries. I hope it helps.

It's true 'hobbyist' who buy and sell carts can spell trouble for the consumer. They offer no warranty and you the consumer are left to your own resources to know if you are buying a cart that needs $7-800 worth of batteries next week or not... around here we call theses guys 'flippers'. They are interested in only one thing ~ The cash sale. After that you are on your own.
