Re: rattling noise on my club car
Big Mac it's kind of hard to tell exactly what noise you're asking about. But I think I hear lifter or Lash adjuster noise.
You should remove the rocker cover (says OHV) and check to see which type of lash adjusters you have. If you have screw type adjusters set the clearance when cold to .005". If you need more assistance it would be a good idea to start a new thread for your specific problem. |

Re: rattling noise on my club car
I didn't hear anything until you noted it had been running for 18 minutes (about 3:14 in the video). Then around the 5:00 minute mark the sound seemed to get quieter. Not sure what it could be, both my carts have the old flathead motors and I've not heard that sound before.

Re: rattling noise on my club car
My '87 Club Car has developed a light rattle on decel over the past 3 to 5 years. It is exactly what the guys on the first page described. Whenever you would climb hills or put the cart under load, the sound would disappear. But it would return going down hills (especially paved downhills), and on flat ground when the cart was partially coasting.
I've just lived with the rattle sound as it never seemed to affect the cart's performance or be anything but annoying. Finally, when my '90 cart motor seized, I decided to investigate and isolate this sound once and for all by swapping out some suspect parts from my seized cart onto my running cart to see if I can ID the sound by process of elimination. Before the motor seized in the '90, it was the quieter of my two carts, I often thought that this was what these carts sounded like when they were brand new. It's funny that I posted 8 years ago in this thread (when I was a n00b) about a sound that I couldn't identify that I thought to be clutch-related but ended up ultimately being a fatal rod knock. I even posted in this thread last year and didn't think to revisit the clutches...lol I thought maybe the current rattle on my '87 was coming from inside my muffler, but swapping out the entire exhaust from the other cart determined that was not the case. I then decided to swap out the driven clutches. I was so relieved when the driven clutch slid right off the input shaft on my seized cart! The previous owner had enough forethought to slather some Never-Seize onto the input shaft last time he had it off (on my '87 cart I had already put Never-Seize on the shaft after I was forced to cut/chisel it off). Once I swapped out the driven clutches the sound went away! |
