Default 79 ezgo marathon top end kit

I have a 79 marathon with a 244 robbins engine and would like to know where to buy a top end kit. My other question is will a kit for the 80 and up kit work? My compression is around 100 psi. I'm gonna try to get this summer out of it. This will be my winter project. Thanks.

I honestly don't know however I suspect not as suppliers would not list 80 - 88 if they also fit 72 - 79. If I was doing the job I would buy the cylinder to block gasket and the head gasket for the 80 up first and then dismantle my engine. If the gaskets appear to fit then I would find a shop to bore my cylinder and supply the correct size new piston.

Of course someone may have a different experience and I would be happy to be proved wrong.

Thanks dave. I did some searching awhile back and found a kit but for the life of me I can't remember where. I'm gonna keep looking. My engine still runs pretty good but I can tell it needs rebuilt. I read somewhere on this site that somebody used an 80-88 kit and it was fine. Just wanted some more proof I guess.

I did some more searching and golfcarcatalog.com has the 79-88 top end kits. The weird thing is they also sell kits for the 80-88. I didn't see anything difference from the photos. That was the only place I found the kits for my year.

The top end kit for 80-88 works. I have rebuilt my 1979 244 robin engine top end.

Thanks for the info! Where did you buy your kit? I've never tore one apart how hard is it to do?

The best place to buy would be from a sponsor on this site. It was a learning experience. Dave Box and people on this site are very helpful.

I will check out the sponsers for a kit. I agree everyone has been very helpful on this site. Thanks everyone. Thanks rib for the manual. I will check it out. I do have mechanical skills. Built a few small and big block chevys and gonna post my first marathon build here in a bit.
